Modern Furniture's Do's and Don'ts

What is one thing that we want when we transfer to a new home? Of course, first on the list would be, modern furniture. Furniture is always the first thing that we buy whenever we move to a new home. But sometimes, we tend to overlook some things that in reality can make our homes look fabulous. Here is where modern furniture comes in.

Modern furniture are stylish, functional but at the same time, comfortable. We want them on our homes but most of the time they are expensive so we want them to stay long. Proper maintenance is needed for them to outlast other things that we have on our homes.

To make them last, first of all, we should keep it protected at all times. We should use coasters or cloth pads in the sofa or in the center table to make sure it is protected from spills. Spills are the most common source of deterioration or stains in the table that makes it unpleasing to the eye.

Another idea is to rotate furniture inside the house. Overuse of modern furniture can make it deteriorate faster than any other things in the house. Another thing is to arrange the item to another angle to make sure that one part is not overused than the other parts. All the parts of the furniture should be used equally to avoid destruction in some parts that are vulnerable. Don't let your furniture be exposed to the sunlight. Too much heat can cause damage (whether seen by the eye or not) that can be the reason for an untimely destruction of your modern furniture.

Same as with sunlight, furniture should be protected from extreme temperatures like too much cold. Place it away from air-conditioning units as possible. As with all things, it must be kept clean. Regular dusting and wiping can help in extending a furniture life. Try looking for special cleansers used for furniture to make sure that they will be clean. In moving the furniture around you must always remember to avoid rough spots that can damage the furniture. Who knows what may happen if it got stuck in one of the rough holes?

Dusting will also help in elongating the life of your furniture. This will help a lot since dust goes to places inside the furniture that may cause it to deteriorate from inside. So frequent dusting will help a lot but remember to use soft feather dusters to ensure that the furniture will not be scratched.

Last thing would be to regularly polish the furniture. This is especially true for leather or wood furniture. It will not only ensure a long life for the furniture but also to maintain its pleasing appearance.

Modern furniture is an investment that we really like but the most essential thing is to keep it clean and well polished to elongate its life span. It doesn't matter if the modern furniture is expensive but at the end of the day, it's on how we take care of it.

Shopping For Modern Furniture the Right Way

Shopping for modern furniture pieces can be challenging task. With all the available options to choose around, the search for the perfect furniture could truly be a tiresome one. However, if you choose furniture pieces based on some factors, you would surely find everything easier for you.

Here are some of the factors you should rely on when choosing furniture:

The Essentials

The first thing to keep in mind is your budget. If you are working on a limited shopping budget, think about quality rather than the quantity of the modern furniture item. Before choosing any of the items, your budget should be considered first. You can visit shops and ask for the catalogue of items together with their prices.

The Design

The design is another important factor to look into. And since not everyone is adept to planning home furniture design, one should contact a stylist for proper guidance on the matter. You can also read some design tips over the internet to guide you by.

In choosing designs, you should consider the décor of your home. If a room is painted with a dull color, you should choose a furniture piece that can liven up a place. And if the place is already dark and condensed, a simpler furniture could easily complete a room.

Think Eclectic

Give considerable time in choosing the pieces you like. If you have found the right modern furniture shop, you can always think twice before making the purchase. You should never rush into buying an item that you are not sure about. A well thought out furniture will display an extremely distinctive appeal in your homes. It is best not to compromise on a well laid plan just because it's taking a while to find the exact piece you like.

Ideas to Revitalize a Home

The furniture you should look for should revitalize your homes. If you are planning to replace some of your furnishings at home, the replacement must be really worth the expense. From time to time, furniture items change in style, color and design. So if there is anything new in modern furniture design, you can very well incorporate this in your homes.

Think of the Future

When buying modern bedroom, modern sofa, modern wall unit, modern dining room you should always think how long it can last in your homes. The durability of the item you bought should last for a long time so you can make use of what you have invested for. Always think of the quality of an item before anything else.

Bedroom Design Ideas – Decorating Tips for Modern Bedroom

By Olivia Flores

Whether you have just shifted to your new home or want to give a makeover to your old master bedroom, you need some exclusive ideas to make your bedroom design stand out. Having a spacious bedroom does not necessarily mean that you need to fill it up with an array of furniture. It only needs to combine all the bedroom designing elements together to create an ambiance. Modern bedroom has to be warm and cozy to ensure good night's sleep.

Decorate in Style

If you choose to decorate your modern bedroom by yourself instead of hiring a professional interior designer then you need prior research work. Giving your bedroom a new look is not a tough job provided you have some creative ideas up your sleeves. You will find myriads websites ready to offer innovative interior design ideas. Traditional or contemporary, oriental or western or simply eclectic – pick your style first. Decorating by style reflects good taste and artistic sense. It will also help you proceed in a systematic way while choosing furniture, fabrics and other decorative items for your bedroom.

Color is the Key

Choose colors for your modern bedroom wisely as colors play a key role in creating the desired mood. If you want to make your large bedroom feel comfy and warm you need brighter shades like orange, lemon yellow or rosy pink. You can think of contrast coloring schemes as well. But for smaller rooms it is advisable that you do not go overboard with colors. Lighter and cooler shades like cream, pale blue or light purple are just fine with small bedrooms.

Furnishing Fundamental

It is needless to say that your modern platform bed is the focal point in your bedroom. It is better to divide the bedroom into different zones especially when you have a large one. It makes the entire decorating process easier. Large bedroom with wide windows require larger furniture while smaller bedrooms call for space saving furniture and low-lying beds.

High king size bed with double mattress and fluffy pillows will perfectly fit in to a large picture. Position the bed against the wall in a way so that anyone entering the room cannot see it from outside. In this respect a well-decorated hotel room can be a good inspiration for designing a bedroom. Place a chic looking chest or cabinet at the foot of the bed to keep television on top of it. It also adds little more privacy to the sleeping area.

Choose large wardrobe and wall-mirrors for the dressing zone. Small wooden desk with table lamp and set of cushioned chairs in a corner can ideally create a cozy reading or lounging area in your bedroom. When it comes to selecting bedside tables and lamps go for round shaped ones rather than square ones if you go for traditional style.Modern bedside lamps come in varied shapes and size to choose from.

Textile Texture

Pick fabric wisely for your bedroom as it relates to comfort as well as privacy. Bedroom windows need double layers of curtains. Long and heavy drapes are to bar the sunlight and cold. Thin light-colored linen curtains ensure privacy while allowing ample sunlight during daytime. For pillow and cushion covers choose fabrics with attractive colors and fine texture. Bedroom is all about rest and comfort. Wide range of fabrics with different textures and price range are available in the market. So,look for variety of fabrics as much as possible before you select one for your bedroom.
Use your imagination and bedroom design ideas to create your own style statement. Hang intricately designed tapestries or a colorful painting with soft wall-lamps focusing on it at the head of the bed. You can not buy anything that appeal to your senses. Choose pieces of art work and tapestries depending on the mood and style of your bedroom design. Placing potted plants by the bed or window brings soothing touch of nature as well.Flowers and floral art works also add to the romantic charm of a bedroom. To be precise,a good amalgamation of your creativity and interior decorating tips given by experts is sure to create the spark in your bedroom decor.

Modern Bedroom Decorating For Sleek Contemporary Style

By Lee Dobbins

The most popular way of decorating a modern bedroom today is in the modern style as it allows for the clearest spaces and which provides you with the simplest maintenance regime (especially for those who do not have time to be cleaning all the time). Modern bedroom decorating is very simple and easy to do and by following the few pointers below you should be able to achieve the modern look you are after.

1. Remove all signs of clutter and chaos from the room (if you don't have the space in your room then store it elsewhere or get rid of it all together). What you are looking to achieve in your modern bedroom is straight lines and organization instead.

2. The furniture you use when decorating a modern bedroom should be plain in either a dark wood or black paint finish. They should also be straight with no curves or ornate markings on them. The reason for using dark furnishings is so that the room has a elegant and sophisticated feel to it. Also you should only use a few pieces prominently displayed in the room.

3. In order to contrast the dark furniture you have in your bedroom you should use very stark colors. Normally a modern room will have whites, greens, blacks and reds as the colours to accentuate the furniture.

4. Do not include throw pillows, blankets in your modern bedroom design as less is more with this style.

The reason why some many bedrooms are decorated now in the modern style is people enjoy the simplicity of the modern platform bed. It is vital to remember that you should carefully plan any design for your modern bedroom look and that there is no room for additional clutter and it is important that you add the least amount to your room in order to make the biggest impact and hopefully the ideas above will help you in achieving this.

So why not looking at some other modern bedroom decorating ideas by searching the internet and you will be amazed at just what you can find.

New trends in modern bedroom furniture design

One of the key points of nearly all 2008 Italian designer modern bed furniture collections is a combination of a square shaped platform bed and oval shaped nightstands sometimes called night tables. Nightstands are no longer a part of the platform, where they served as an extension of the modern platform bed. Even the platform itself does not stand out now, looking very modest. Another great innovation is that, in some designs, modern platform bed feet are located close to the center of the platform, giving the whole composition an impression of the bed floating in the midair. The curve shaped appearance of the platform, footboard and headboard combined in one piece gives a strong resemblance of some kind of a mythological vessel.

The materials most commonly used are plywood panels, but solid timber still rocks, with extremely popular wenge finish; however, warm tone cherrywood is still trendy if you want more country style.

Curve is the word of the season. Curved plywood panels are used in all parts of the modern bedroom, except maybe for the wardrobes, filling one of the most important areas of your home – your bedroom - with uniqueness and chic. Curve really puts attention to the details. Curved shape of the modern chest drawer is not only fashionable, but extremely practical since it replaces traditional handles with the opening in curve without ruining the design of the chest drawer.

A special attention is now given to the wardrobes – they are made very spacious yet still very stylish because of their finish. White decape finish is, of course, a hit of the season, but particular attention is given to the use of the mirrors and glass. The mirror’s direct task – to reflect things falls behind and its key mission is now to accentuate the major color of the bedroom set. Mirrors and glass are frequently used to cover the top of the drawer chests and nightstands, but most importantly, they are used as the finish of the modern wardrobe doors. Mirror and glass finish comes in all imaginable types: from one-piece lacquered to patterned; all colors and shades: white, bronzed, smoked, satined, and appearances from break to plain smooth. And the combination of all above really impress: you can find white lacquered mirrors, which look really good in framed sectional fronts of the wardrobes; smoke patterned mirrors do a fascinating job with wenge color of the wardrobe, creating that unique sophisticated look. Bronzed mirror glass is always a perfect match for the country-style cherry wood. And break glass looks superior in bronze color.

Regular wardrobe doors, long before replaced with the sliding member of the door family, do not seem to come back this season. Sliding doors are still very much in style, which, given by their comfort and space-saving ability, will definitely keep them in our homes for a very long time.

Modern Living Room Furniture

So, are you ready for the Modern Living Room experience? Ready to live with modern style furniture but don’t know where to start? Let’s start…

What I would recommend you is to first choose the right modern wall unit, modern TV stand or modern entertainment center for your living room because your modern sofa position and measurements will very much depend of the placement of your TV entertainment center, TV stand, or the complete modern wall unit. You can, of course, choose to just get a modern TV stand but I strongly recommend you to get a complete wall unit. This could be the most creative and unique furniture piece in your modern living room, the piece that will give your living style not only modern but absolutely unique look. These days, with so many options and choices of modern wall units out there it all depends only on your creativity to build your own style from what furniture manufacturers are offering you.

Modern sofas, modern sectional sofas, dinette area tables – all of these units you see in stores usually look somewhat alike to what your neighbors have. But modern wall unit gives you an opportunity to create something really eye catching, nice, unique and futuristic piece of modern furniture. And to make that happen, let me offer some helpful hints that always work for me:

A wall unit is usually what you see first when enter a living room so work hard on it. First, you really need to start with choosing the right size – yes, it does matter here. There is a very simple rule for the wall unit I use: “90-60-90”, or I would say “90-60-45-90” J. What it means is that, usually, wall units geometrically come in standard sizes like 90, 60 and 45 cm. Sometimes you will find 120 and 100 cm units existing but those usually are TV bases or base units. Depth typically does not exceed 15-17” for wall mounted units or storage units and 20-24” for base units. Trust me, if you’ve done this part of your homework correctly, it will serve you right.

These days, plenty of colors and finishes are used for modern wall units. Lacquer, wood veneer…. I especially like black / white, black / red lacquered color combinations; however, even though white color looks nice, be very careful with it. The color of your wall might spoil the effect (means if your wall is painted in white, beige or of white then white wall unit will blend in and you won’t have that contrast effect you’ve been looking for).

Please…. Do not try to make your modern wall unit spacey and useful at the same time…. It won’t work… there are lots of closets in your house so do not kill the look, make it simple, low to the ground, open and airy.

Last but not least – do not overplay and do not forget about your components… Some modern wall units like low boards with the TV on top look nice in the catalog BUT in the real life if you try to set up a TV there, you will have lack of space and lots of cords to hide. So be careful when choosing a TV unit in your wall unit, make sure you know measurements of all your components you buy the wall unit for and try to visually hide everything into the TV unit. Sometimes a back panel works nice to hide cords under the panel. Sometimes TV units are made this way to hide all those ugly cords. So be careful - this is very important.

Modern sofas… or modern sectional sofas are the most commonly used pieces of living room furniture today. Here are some recommendations when choosing one: it is always better if you position the sofa and your chase lounge the way that they both face your TV (wall unit). I also like the idea of putting chase lounges on both sides of your modern sectional sofa. The result is: it will make a sitting place cozier…. The whole place feels more secure and separated from other areas that way, making it a space for easy relaxation, a living quarter inside a living quarter.

It is always your choice to choose between a modern leather sofa and a modern fabric sofa. I like fabric sofas myself. It is more comfortable for me and you have lots of different colors to play with but, once again, it is always your choice.

Now, let’s get to the modern coffee table choices. If your room is big or even huge, low profile tables in wenge finish would look very nice there. If you ask me, I would prefer arm tables. They save lots of space; they’re not heavy, they are convenient enough to put a newspaper or a cup of coffee on them when you need it. Or you can hide it when you are not using it. There is a wide selection of these kinds of tables these days in wenge, glass (almost all of then have adjustable height).

Do not use a rug, even if it has a modern print on it, use cow hides. Natural and / or faux will always work the right way on your floor accenting a modern look of your room. Also a few chairs or foot stools in matching colors could be used if there is a need to increase the number of seats.

Modern Dining or Dinette area… Wrong choice here could kill your entire job of creating your modern living room. Dinette table and chairs, even if you choose a modern ones, still looks heavy and attracts too much attention to itself, taking it all away from the rest of your beautifully created ensemble. To solve this problem and not to kill all previously done work, I would recommend selecting a console table, either in wenge finish or glass. One side of it usually gets permanently attached to the wall. The other side has nice modern chrome legs. These consoles are usually hard to find but they can be custom made easily (and mostly not expensive).

To complete your composition, install a nice, modern adjustable bar / counter chairs instead of the dining chairs. Now you have a place to eat in or use as a bar table if you’re having a party. All simple, nice unique and inexpensive.
